This building is located at the starting point of the Hozugawa River boat trip, famous in Kyoto, and boasts a privileged location with the Hozugawa River stretching out before it and Mount Ushimatsu and Mount Atago in the background. The site is a unique location, like an island in the middle of an irrigation canal, one level below ground level, requiring consideration of the cliff (bottom and top of the cliff), and despite the low ground strength, it was difficult to bring in heavy machinery, making improvement work challenging. Therefore, considering the soft ground, it was difficult to use a heavy reinforced concrete foundation, so a foundation was devised using steel pipe foundation piles with steel beams in the ground, and a plan was devised to place the second-floor slab and a steel floor that also serves as a bridge to the ground on the front road side on top of the first-floor steel columns, which are expected to be submerged when the irrigation canal floods. The second and third floors are two-story wooden structures that make use of solid lumber. For the wooden sections, the foundation was laid while tracing the beam positions of the steel-framed floor, employing traditional wooden construction methods. The plan includes large horizontal windows that follow the flow of the Hozugawa River, directly connecting the view to the river, and creating a structure where the activities of the facility spill out from the stadium and boarding area. Furthermore, the plan includes openings that will connect the second floor of the building to the Hozugawa River embankment in the future, further linking to the river. The hope is that the building will blend its activities into the rich surrounding environment, creating a synergistic effect with the surrounding activities.
